“It’s Not Too Late”: Craig Mecham Proves It’s Never Too Late to Chase the Music
NORTH LOGAN, UT--June, 2025. Most people in their seventies are content to slow down, savor quiet mornings, and perhaps revisit old memories. But Craig Mecham is far too busy making new ones. This Utah-based singer-songwriter is not just performing—he’s writing, recording, and releasing original music with the fervor of a man half his age. His newly released album, It’s Not Too Late, is more than a title; it’s a declaration.
This ten-track collection—eight songs and two rare instrumentals—builds on the artistic journey Craig began with his first album, Now It’s 2:00 AM: Songs That Wouldn’t Let Me Sleep, released in June 2023. Along the way, two of his previous singles, “Ain’t No Quit” and “Don’t Chain Me,” have both climbed to #1 on the HUGS 24/7 Radio international charts, showing that audiences far and wide are connecting with his authentic, deeply human storytelling.
A Life Steeped in Song
Visitors to www.craigmechammusic.com will find a treasure trove of stories, photos, and videos that reveal how music has always been part of Craig’s identity. He’s been playing guitar and writing songs for over fifty years. But it’s only in the past six that he’s become serious about recording and sharing them with the world.
“People often ask why I waited so long to start recording albums,” Craig says. “I tell them life got in the way—but it also gave me the stories worth telling.”
Stories are indeed at the heart of It’s Not Too Late. Whether recounting his fears of leaving music unspoken in “Will There Be Music Left Inside?”, gently ribbing his wife’s genealogy obsession in “If I Was Dead, She’d Notice Me,” or marveling at modern cardiology after a heart attack in “Yesterday I Saw My Heart,” Craig delivers songs that are rich with humor, humility, and hope.

Crafted Close to Home
The album also stands as a testament to the tight-knit musical community of Cache Valley, Utah. Recording engineer and producer John Carter of ThirteenEight Productions helped bring Craig’s songs to life, meeting the artist’s “often unreasonable and picky expectations,” as Craig fondly puts it. Local talents Anna Anawalt (fiddle), Xavier Hay (banjo), and Josiah Cordes (cello) each added their artistry to the album, giving the songs a vibrant depth that can only come from musicians who genuinely connect with the material—and with each other.
Instrumentals, Grace, and a Little Laughter.
For longtime fans who know Mecham’s guitar-driven singer-songwriter style, this album holds two rare treats: instrumentals. “Recliner #2” and “Houston Through the Window” showcase his intricate fingerpicking and keen ear for melody.
“Instrumentals are unusual for me,” Craig admits. “But sometimes a guitar can say things words can’t.” One was inspired by memories of watching warm Texas Novembers from a window—played on an 1893 Martin 0-21 that had sat forgotten in a closet for decades until, quite literally, it came to him in a dream.
Much of the album is also deeply spiritual. In “His Hand is Stretched Out Still,” inspired by a sermon on Isaiah 9:12, Craig contemplates divine patience and the comfort of knowing there’s forgiveness despite our flaws. The tender “A Prayer,” written to open a local interfaith summer concert, turns a songwriter’s voice into a direct supplication.
But Craig balances the sacred with the delightfully human. “If I Was Dead, She’d Notice Me” was born from gentle teasing of his wife Tammy, who is so absorbed in family history research that Craig jokes she might finally pay attention to him if he were a longlost ancestor.
“She’s a good sport,” he says with a laugh. “I had to get her blessing to put that one on the album.”
A Growing Legacy
Despite having released his debut album only last year, Mecham’s schedule rivals that of many full-time touring musicians. Over the past four years, he’s averaged more than 60 shows annually—all while still running his marketing consulting business.
“It might sound crazy at my age, but I feel this urgency,” he says. “There’s still music inside me. I want to get it out before it’s too late.”
The album’s title reflects that mission. It also resonates far beyond the world of music.
Craig’s journey is a reminder that it’s truly never too late—to chase a dream, to share your gifts, or to create something beautiful that will last.
Where to Listen
It’s Not Too Late is available now on all major streaming platforms, alongside his debut album Now It’s 2:00 AM: Songs That Wouldn’t Let Me Sleep. To explore Craig’s music, upcoming shows, and stories behind his songs, visit www.craigmechammusic.com.
